The newest entry from Palm Inc., the Palm IIIc, boasts a lot of new features. The sum of them, though, is more than just slick. The Palm IIIc has a color screen (hence the "c"). Perhaps more important, it's the first Palm that's backlit all the time. The active-matrix display will impress users of previous models. The screen is crisp and readable; in fact, the display is comparable to displays on good notebook computers. There aren't as many colors on the IIIc as on a notebook, but it's as easy on the eyes, which lends the handheld to business applications that require more eye-engaged time than the light calendar, to-do lists, and address-book work that dominate most current routines.
