Present State of Technology for Firing Ceramic Sanitaryware

The fast firing technology was originally developed and put into practice for the single-layerfiring of tiles as well as fortableware (mainly holloware and/or onglaze and inglaze decorations) in the 1970s. In the 1980s the further development of kiln furniture and insulating firebricks and the introduction of fibre materials as well as of high-velocity burners provided the prerequisites for prefabrication and lightweight kiln designs and thus also for introducing the faster firing (8...12 h) of very complex ceramic parts (regarding geometry, volume and weight).
