Builder confidence in the market for new single-family homes ticked upward for a third consecutive month in September, according to the National Assn. of Home Builders (NAHB) and Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) released Sept. 16. The HMI rose one point to 19, its highest level since May 2008. Some of this improvement can be credited to the first-time homebuyer tax credit, continued low mortgage rates, and strong housing affordability.
