Q The subject of the Spitfires stationed at Skeabrae in the Orkneys has been mentioned in several recent issues. A Ex-Spitfire pilot Ian Blair, still very much with us, lent Peter R. Arnold a couple of photographs some time ago. Peter has supplied one that shows MkⅦ MD114/DU-G in a blast pen at Skeabrae, wearing No 312 (Czech) Squadron codes. It is in Fighter Command's standard 'high-altitude' colour scheme, light grey on top with PR blue undersides. Mike Mackay adds a little more information, pointing out that Decals Studio Sheet LDS 72003 includes decals for this aircraft when it was with No 312 Squadron. It was said to be the one in which Fit Lt Blair shot down a Bf 109.
