With increasing fuel costs and legislation pressure to reduce CO_2 emissions, the interest in electric vehicles continues to increase. Key drivers in the electric vehicle market continue to be cost and usability, more specifically vehicle range. Drive System Design (DSD) and Oxford Yasa Motors have designed a 3 speed electric vehicle powertrain for the small to medium vehicle market segment. DSD's research has shown that significant efficiency and economy gains can be made by using multi-speed transmission for electric vehicles.
