On the eve of its mass marketing, technology has defined the development of the new electric car. Two visions for it are appearing. From the car's earliest days, electric current propulsion was presented as a possible alternative, led by the Electrobat (1894) or the Jamais Contente ('Never Happy') which exceeded the 100 km/h barrier in 1899. Even though fossil fuels replaced electrical energy, experimentation has continued unceasingly for a century. Nowadays, the automotive industry has committed itself irreversibly to the trend towards the electrification of the car. Much of its equipment has already crossed the threshold - power steering, handbrake and especially the majority of actuators. Electrical propulsion has so far only made its appearance in the hybrid car. This type of vehicle however remains dependent on fossil fuel propulsion, with the electrical part serving with only to increase the overall yield and only able to power the car for a very restricted range of uses.
