A setup based on an optical polarizing microscope and a technique for simultaneously studying the morphology of light-scattering film materials and measuring their thermo- and electro-optical characteristics are described. The setup is equipped with a specially developed thermocuvette, a laser, a CCD video camera, a photodetector, units for processing electronic signals, and a computer. The performance capabilities of the apparatus are demonstrated using examples of optically anisotropic composite films of polymer carrying out liquid crystals with controlled light scattering.
