A preamplifier with a rise and fall time of ～2.5 ns is described. At the output of a transmitting 50-Ω cable with matched terminations at both ends, and the input-equivalent circuit noise is 20μV at an amplification factor of 7.5. Eight such preamplifiers are placed inside a unit with dimensions of 8×16×4 cm.
