A measuring converter on the velocity of sound in liquid

A measuring converter for controlling the velocity of sound in salt water is described. It is based on the tracking balancing the time necessary for acoustic pulses to travel the base distance by the pulse period divisible by the oscillation period of the controlled generator. The converter has a high accuracy and short achieved output-signal transient time, because it excludes the error component caused by a nonlinear variation of the pulsation frequency of the controlled-generator with the sound velocity by adjusting the duration of correcting pulses. The characteristics of the converter are as follows: the acoustic base length is 0.1 m; the measurement velocity range is 1400-1600 m/s; the frequency of the output signal is 1400-1600 kHz; the absolute basic error is less than f±0.03 m/s; and the output signal transient time does not exceed 0.6 s.
