The effect of placing the CR-39 track detector in a vacuum on the diameters of α-particle tracks in the 0.49-5.15 MeV energy range was investigated. It was shown that the track diameters decreased at a pressure of ~10{sup}(-2) Torr; after 8-12 h presence in a vacuum, the diameters changed significantly. Prolonged exposure to a vacuum and short-duration return to atmospheric pressure resulted in virtually complete recovery ofα-particle.
