The aviation control device and medical equipment may malfunction by the effects electromagnetic waves from electronic devices. We similarly worry about the trouble to the communication device, the engine control and the navigation equipment in the ship. We will forecast that more efficient electronic devices are installed in the ship in the future. There is a necessity of electromagnetic compatibility research to guarantee the safety of the ship. We investigated the real electromagnetic environment in the ship by using the training ship of Institute for Sea Training. Moreover, we measured electric field strength of the Osaka bay area. As a result, a severity level of the navigation equipment in an international standard and a strong electric field of the same level were measured. On the other hand, there was an equipment which radiated an electromagnetic wave which exceeded the interference limits of International Electrotechnical Commission in the measurement result inboard. Moreover, a strong local electromagnetic intensity was measured because of the interference of reflection waves from metallic wall surrounding a navigation room. This means that danger may exist when the radiation from the equipment is below the limit value.
