摘要

The United States, Japan and South Korea last week urged China to stop opposing the inclusion of flat-panel television parts within the scope of an expanded Information Technology Agreement (ITA), according to Geneva sources. While China is a major producer and exporter of televisions, it is keen to retain high-value investment in screen manufacturing capacity that it fears would dwindle if tariffs on those screens were dropped through the ITA expansion. It also is increasingly trying to ramp up its screen manufacturing for domestic consumers.
