EU To Launch Investigation Into Alleged Chinese Dumping Of Solar Panels

The European Commission is poised to announce this week an investigation into alleged dumping by China of solar panels and key components in the European Union market, in what is to mark the largest trade case ever opened by the EU's executive arm covering an estimated $20 billion dollars in annual imports, according to informed sources. The scope of the anti-dumping (AD) investigation will cover not only Chinese-made crystalline silicon photovoltaic panels - also called modules - but the cells that make them up. It will also go beyond the scope of the investigation carried out by the United States government in a separate but related case by looking into alleged dumping in the EU market of Chinese-made wafers, which are processed to make cells, although modules make up the bulk of the Chinese solar energy imports into Europe.
