Cultivating science and planting beauty: the spaces of display in Cambridge's botanical gardens

Geographers have begun to take seriously the spatial chords that underpin the making of scientific knowledge, exploring the journeys that science makes across a variety of material and intellectual spaces. The role of aesthetics in the translation and display of scientific knowledge has been relatively neglected however. Consequently this paper seeks to highlight the significance of questions of beauty in the ordering of plant displays in the development of Cambridge University's old and new botanical gardens.
