Control of self-incompatibility by CO2gas inBrassica

Pollen tubes penetrated stigma papilla cells in flowers that were illegitimately (self) pollinated, after CO2treatment of these flowers. This shows that the self-incompatible reaction inBrassicacan be removed by CO2gas. Ethylene gas was not effective.
