U.S. Chamber Urges Delay Of China Innovation Measure To Allow More Input

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is urging China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) to delay final publication of a catalogue whose latest draft it says contains potentially discriminatory and counterproductive criteria for promoting "indigenous innovation" in key technologies and equipment. MIIT should "refrain from publishing a final Catalogue and proceed with an ongoing dialogue with industry stakeholders on best policies and practices that promote real and meaningful innovation for the 21st Century and beyond," the Chamber says in seven pages of comments submitted to MIIT. The draft MIIT Guiding Catalogue for Indigenous Innovation in Key Technologies and Equipment made public in December 2011 "would actually decrease, not increase innovation in China," according to the Chamber.
