Plant resistance to the porina caterpillarWiseana cervinata(Lepidoptera: Hepialidae)

The growth rate and feeding behaviour ofWiseana cervinatalarvae supplied with the foliage of a range of legumes and grasses were studied. Mortality of larvae supplied withLotus pedunculatusandArrhenatherum elatiuswas 94#x2013;100 within 30 davs. Weight gains of larvae feeding onLotus corniculatus, L. pedunculatus#xD7;corniculatus, L. tenuis, Anthoxanthum odoratum, Dactylis glomerata, Holcus lanatus, andPhalaris tuberosawere less than those of larvae fed onTrifolium repensandLoliumhybrid cv. #x2018;Grasslands Manawa#x2019;.
