AbstractRecently reported polarization insensitive heterodyne detection schemes that use the properties of polarized light are all shown to be related to the basic concept of simultaneously using two different frequency, orthogonally polarized optical fields. The various system design options associated with this concept are compared in terms of receiver complexity.
