Veeco patent case goes to court

In the four-year old patent dispute between Veeco Instruments Inc (Woodbury, NY) and Asylum Research Corp (Santa Barbara, CA), both developers of Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) technology, the federal court in Los Angeles has reduced the numbers of patents going to trial and set a date for trial for March this year. Veeco initiated the case surrounding Asylum's MFP-3D~(TM) AFM in September 2003, with Asylum counterclaiming three months later (see Instruments 20 (20) 4).
