The Republican Party last week adopted its formal policy platform for the next four years in which the party promises to take a tougher stance against China on trade issues, vows to conclude the ongoing Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, and endorses human rights legislation as a complement to passing legislation to remove Russia from the Jackson-Vanik amendment. The platform, approved by delegates on Aug. 28 at the Republican National Convention, reflects many of the ideas that presidential nominee Mitt Romney has espoused on the campaign trail. For instance, after calling for the extension of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) to enable a Republican administration to pursue new trade agreements, the platform calls for talks to establish a "Reagan Economic Zone," which is one of the new trade agreements that Romney has vowed to pursue if he is elected.
