U.S., EU Agri-Food Groups Warn Commission Against GMO Import Opt-Out

U.S. and European Union agri-food groups are warning the European Commission against making any proposal that would give individual EU member states the authority to ban the import of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) that have been found to be safe by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The groups both sent similar but separate letters to the commission as Brussels conducts a review of the procedures for authorizing GMO imports in the EU, a report on which is expect to be released in late April.
