Jourova's Washington Visit Fails To Culminate In New Deal On Safe Harbor

European Justice Commissioner Vera Jourova and U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker fell short of concluding a final agreement on a revised Safe Harbor framework for personal data protection during meetings earlier this week in Washington, according to a spokesman for the commissioner. "Talks have been very constructive and intensive," the spokesman, Christian Wigand, said in a Nov. 18 email to Inside U.S. Trade. "Progress towards a new arrangement for transatlantic commercial data transfers has been made. There is political support in government and in Congress.... The objective remains to come to a conclusion within three months (before end of January)."
