摘要

The epithelial cells of the gastrointestinal mucosa proliferate and differentiate rapidly. Proliferating cells in all regions pass through G1 S, and G2 phases of the cell cycle prior to mitosis. As cells differentiate, they develop new properties and lose the ability to undergo cell division. The healthy development of these cells is influenced by a number of factors, including blood supply, hormones, stress, diurnal variation, and mitotic inhibitory substances. During the development of polyposis and atrophic gastritis, proliferating cells develop an enhanced ability to continue DNA synthesis for a prolonged period and fail to develop certain differentiation-specific properties. They develop additional characteristics that enable them to accumulate in the mucosa in neoplastic lesions of increasing size.
