Levin Lays Out TPP Proposals That He Says Could Draw Dem Support

House Ways & Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) this week laid out a series of proposals for resolving outstanding issues in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) talks that include a 30-year phaseout of U.S. tariffs on Japanese autos and monitoring of Vietnam's labor regime. He signaled that their inclusion in a final TPP deal would secure his vote and that of a substantial number of Democratic members. "What I'm doing is laying some specific proposals as to how these outstanding issues might be resolved to achieve outcomes ... that could bring about strong bipartisan support, including mine," Levin said at a Jan. 22 press roundtable where he unveiled his eight-page paper.
