The government of Ecuador is awaiting a decision by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative early next month on whether it will consider Ecuador's request that six of its key exports receive duty-free treatment under the Generalized System of Pre ferences (GSP) as they do now under the separate Andean trade preference program that is set to expire on July 31, 2013. The six petitions, filed with USTR on Oct. 5 as part of the GSP 2012 Annual Review, are driven by Ecuador's recognition that Congress is unlikely to renew the Andean Trade Preference Act (ATPA) solely for Ecuador, which is currently its only beneficiary country.
