In this paper by J. Konstanty, a special stonesawing programme has been designed to investigate the combined effects ofselected mechanical properties of the diamond segment matrix on the overall toolbehaviour A number of fundamental studies may be found in the literature ofstone sawing 1 -8 and tool wear processes 3-13. The latter are mainly devotedto the behaviour of diamond grits whereas very little attention is paid to themechanisms involved in the wear of the matrix. This study has been made withthe intention of throwing more light on the complexity of matrix wean whichseems to be equally a system property and material characteristics.
