A step taken by U.S. regulators this spring to improve the ability of European Union dairy firms to export yogurt and other fluid milk products is being dismissed by that industry as falling short of an effective solution for obtaining the certifications necessary to access the U.S. market. The move by the United States - made in late April - essentially aims to expand the number of third-party certifiers available to verify that EU dairy companies that wish to export to the U.S. are meeting American food safety standards, particularly the so-called "Grade A" certification.
