Ways And Means Democrats Lay Out Four Demands For New TPA Bill

More than half of the Democratic members of the House Ways and Means Committee this week laid out four conditions that they said a new "fast-track" trade bill must fulfill in order for it to garner broad support in Congress. In a Nov. 8 letter to President Barack Obama, the 10 Ways and Means Democrats, joined by Reps. Doris Matsui (D-CA) and James Himes (D-CT), specifically said a new fast-track bill cannot merely be a reiteration of earlier legislation and must include a stronger role for Congress in the negotiating process than the 2002 Trade Act.
