摘要

Government officials and standards industry groups from the United States and the European Union will hold a private meeting next week to discuss how to better facilitate standardization in the electric vehicle industry, both in the trans-Atlantic marketplace and in third countries. The meeting is being organized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and its European counterparts CEN and CENELEC and will be held on Nov. 28-29 in Brussels, according to ANSI spokeswoman Liz Neiman. The invitation-only event comes in response to an "e-mobility" work plan put forward in November 2011 by the Transatlantic Economic Council (TEC), Neiman said. The work plan was part of an annex to the TEC's joint statement last year, and said that both the U.S. and the EU aim at putting an "ambitious number" of electric vehicles on their streets in the near future. The parties hope for more than 1 million electric vehicles in the United State by 2015 and more than 6 million in the European Union by 2020. It therefore called for the creation of joint standards, strengthening cooperation among regulators, and intensifying joint research efforts, among other things.
