Verizon loses VoIP patent suit

Verizon Communications has failed in its bid to assert a patent relating to internet telephony (VoIP) against cable company Cox Communications. Verizon had accused Cox of infringing on six of its patents, however, a jury cleared Cox of all allegations. Cox welcomed the decision and said it looks forward 'to competing vigorously with Verizon in the marketplace, not in the courtroom.'Verizon settled a similar suit against digital-phone service provider Vonage last year, which had to pay US117.5m for its use of VoIP technology. Verizon had expected to extract US404m against Cox.
