摘要

The subtrochanteric region of the femur is defined as the portion of the proximal femur between the inferior aspect of the lesser trochanter and a point located approximately 5 cm distal to it [1,2]. This region of the femur experiences the highest tensile and compressive forces of the entire human skeleton [3,4]. Subtrochanteric fractures tend to occur from high-energy trauma and often result in significant displacement of the proximal fragment. However, low-energy fractures in this area caused by a fall from standing height can also occur in elderly individuals with osteopenia; in general, most of these fractures are spiral fractures [3,5].
