Neal picked as top Ways & Means Democrat, says 'reset' needed on trade

Representative Richard Neal (D-MA) on Dec. 2 was elected as ranking member of the House Ways & Means Committee by his Democratic colleagues on the committee. He told Inside U.S. Trade on Dec. 1 that trade policy must be revamped before Congress and the general public will be willing to get behind large new trade deals. The previous ranking member of the Ways & Means Committee, Rep. Sandy Levin (D-MI), announced on Nov. 29 that he would be stepping down from that position. Initially, Levin backed Xavier Becerra (D-CA) to take the ranking member spot, but on Dec. 1 Becerra was offered and accepted the position of California's Attorney General. Levin subsequently issued a statement supporting Neal's bid for the top Democratic spot on the committee.
