TPP Data Fix Floated In TTIP, TISA Rounds; Brady Hopeful On Enforcement

The U.S. on July 13 floated identical proposals in the negotiating rounds for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership as well as the Trade in Services Agreement to include a ban on data localization requirements for financial services firms and provide the "fix" that members of Congress and the industry have asked for in the Trans-Pacific Partnership, according to multiple sources. But House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) on July 14 said that while he is "hopeful" the proposal will lead to fully enforceable commitments, he believes more discussions between the administration and members of Congress are needed to ensure an approach that guarantees enforceability, especially for the four countries that are not party to TTIP or TISA talks.
