This paper proposes a new concept of a transmission diversity based on a branch selection criterion of reception diversity for mitigation of the human body effect of handheld terminals. An increase in average received power of a base station is calculated by the correlation and effective gain characteristics of the diversity branches. The results indicate that although the proposed method has no effects on instantaneous signal fades in multiple radio wave environments, a great improvement can be expected with regard to an average gain of a handset antenna close to the human body.
