Microsoft has won an appeal against one of the largest patent awards in US legal history. District Court judge William Smith overturned a US$398m jury verdict, ruhng that Microsoft did not infringe on Uniloc's security software technology and that the damage award was based on misleading evidence presented at trial. 'There is serious error in the verdict for many reasons,' Smith wrote in his ruhng explaining his reasons for reversing the lower court decision made in April.'The jury lacked a grasp of the issues before it and reached a finding without a legally sufficient basis,' the judge said.
