The lack of international standards plagues the entire software industry.The automation software business is no exception,but is doing much better than many other software industry segments,quite possibly because OPC(OLE for process control)development takes as its model the fieldbus philosophy.For a start,an application developed for one operating system does not run on another.Therefore,for better or worse,the automation software business takes its marching orders from the capabilities of MS-Windows.
