The increased demand for new input devices has made the virtual world seek new ideas on new input devices for different parts of the body. VR is an example of a recent application area in which input devices play an important role towards realism. This paper presents a new input technique for foot motion in VR applications. Foot motion sensing device has a strong potential to indicate users input in a virtual environment. We, therefore, created a simple device to detect ankle movements with rotary encoder sensors. These sensors rotate according to the amount and direction of the movement of the foot. The sensors are attached to a sandal and can be used for many purposes for example, virtual games. Validation of our approach is given by discussion and illustration of some experimental results.
