Some novel mixed-ligand cyanonitrosyl {CrNO}5complexes of chromium(I), formed by the interaction of potassium penta-cyanonitrosylchroroate(I) monohydrate, K3Cr(NO)(CN)5.H2O, with potentially bidentate quinoline derivative, viz., 2-hydrazinoquino-line, 3-hydrazinoquinoline, 2-quinolinecarboxylic acid, 3-quinoline-carboxylic acid, 4-quinolinecarboxylic acid, 2-quinolinecarboxalde-hyde, 3-quinolinecarboxaldehyde, 4-quinolinecarboxaldehyde, and methyl 3-isoquinolinecarboxylate are described. The products, which have been characterized by elemental analyses, electrical conductances, magnetic measurements, electron spin resonance and infrared spectral studies, have the general formula Cr(NO)(CN)2(L)2(H2O), where L = the said ligands. Octahedral structure has been proposed for the complexes. Chromium(I) has a low-spin {crNO}5electron configuration in these complexes.
