Mirabilopsaltria, a new cicada genus from New Guinea, its taxonomy and biogeography (Homoptera Tibicinidae)

The genusMirabilopsaltrian. gen. is erected for six closely related species from New Guinea and the Bismarck archipelago. Three species(B. humilisBl#xF6;te 1960,B. viridicataDistant 1897, andB. toxopeusiBl#xF6;te 1960) are redescribed and transferred fromBaeturiaSt#xE5;l 1866 toMirabilopsaltrian. gen., and three species (M.globulata, M. inconspicua, andM inflata)are described as new. The genus belongs to a complex of genera grouped aroundBaeturiaand is most closely related to the generaThaumastopsaltriaKirkaldy 1900,CystosomaWestwood 1842, andCystopsaltriaGoding amp; Froggatt 1904 of this complex. A key to the males and a map of the distribution are presented.
