This short book is about the equally short life (which is what une vie brève means; the translated edition is One Hundred Twenty-One Days) of the young French mathematician Maurice Audin, murdered by French special forces (the infamous Massu's paratroopers) in Algiers during the Algerian liberation war against French colonialism.
