AbstractA critical analysis of therapeutic vesicoinhibitory electrical stimulation is presented based on a study of ten patients with suprasacral spinal cord lesions and detrusor hyperreflexia. The detrusor contraction was either completely abolished, or the threshold of the contraction significantly increased, with electrical stimulation delivered to the dorsal nerves of penis (or clitoris) via surface electrodes. A current strength of 0.09 to 3.5 times the bulbocavernosus reflex threshold was used.
