It is known for a fact that the far-field boundary causesexpensive computer calculations, when applying the finite elementmethod to Maxwells equations. The reason is of course that a magneticpotential of some kind must be forced to zero at an appropriatedistance from the disturbance, in electromagnetics the conductor.Various methods have been examined to reduce the cost of thesecalculations. Infinite elements may be coupled to the model, and thefar-field boundary may be handled with one element only.
