Lawyers are active participants in decision-making at every step in the research pathway-from preclinical conceptualization to clinical trials, from manufacturing to marketing. Closing the evidence gap created by the underrepresentation and exclusion of pregnant women in clinical research will require targeted attention to the roles of legal professionals and to the legal factors that can slow or halt research.
