A multinational FAO/GEF/UNEP project is working to reduce the volume of non-targeted species caught at sea, while at the same time, seeking better ways to utilise whatever bycatch that is landed. This article presents the main findings from a bycatchutilisation review it had conducted using data from 16 countries, which the project feels will be useful for not only those involved in the fishing and processing sectors, but also at the planning and policy level.
