Global shrimp market badly hit by adverse economic conditions in Europe but slight hope of US recovery

After remaining firm for nearly three years, the international market for shrimp has taken a clear downward turn with export prices crashing in June. Marketers say that the large production of Indian vannamei shrimp is having an impact on the complexglobal shrimp situation. Although US buying had slowly resumed by end-July, imports into the European Union markets are still declining. The Japanese market is also less active compared with last year. However, export prices from most of the producing countries seemed to have bottomed out and some stability has returned at the end of July.
