The demand for biodegradable packaging materials such as polylactic acid(PLA)-a starch derivative made from corn and other high-starch plants-and polyhydroxyalka-noates,which are produced from sugar,plant oils,and biowaste-is growing,according to a report by Nerac Advisors entitled"Biodegradable Food Packaging:An Environmental Imperative."
