Arachidonic acid (AA) is a long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (LC-PUFA) with 20 carbon atoms and four double bonds.Its systematic name is all-cis-5,8,11,14-eicosa-tetraenoic acid,or-in the shorthand notation for unsaturated fatty acids-20:4n-6.It is an important structural component of the lipids in neural tissue,including the brain.AA is also the biosynthetic precursor for several classes of biologically active molecules,such as eicosanoids.
