摘要

In 2000-01, the world soybean crop is expected to rise from 156 to 170 million metric tons (MMT). Export of beans from the United States, Argentina, and Brazil should increase by almost 10 percent from 39.7 to 43.6 MMT, and imports to China are predicted to rise from 7.9 to 10.4 MMT. These high import levels follow figures of 3.4, 2.9, and 2.3 MMT during the three preceding years, showing the very rapid increase in Chinese demand for oilseeds, and particularly for soybeans, in the recent past. As aconsequence of this, imports of soybean oil have fallen or risen only slightly and there has been downward pressure on crushing in the three American producer countries (Table 1).
