Recombinant human interferon-agr; has been used successfully in the treatment of patients with chronic active hepatitis. In the current report, a patient presented with fatigue, weight loss, irritability, and palpitation while receiving interferon therapy resulting from chronic hepatitis B infection. Thyroid function tests and scintigraphic findings were consistent with subacute thyroiditis, which developed during interferon therapy. The current experience illustrates the necessity of being aware of the clinical history and medications used when interpreting nuclear medicine studies.
