Mechanical Desktop offers a few methods for developing a two-dimensional drawing from a designer's completed assembly model. The method you choose is dependent upon your preferences. One method can be set up to automatically update a 2-D drawing each time the assembly model changes. Another method allows the designer to specifically choose what parts of the assembly, such as a subassembly, to develop into a 2-D drawing. Each method has distinct advantages and disadvantages, and the method chosen usually depends on what the designer is ultimately trying to accomplish. In this article, we'll examine the various methods of developing our 2-D drawing of an assembly model. We'll discuss various points of each method and try to point out why you might choose one over the other. In some cases the reasons may be obvious.
